I't would be very good that avi2dvd have option to not delete temporary files, so if something goes wrong after avi->m2v, m2v wont be deleted, and muxing can be done manualy .

Well if you dont have VIDEO_TS directory after avi2dvd has finished , somthhing gone wrong. If you are lucky you have one file with extension filename.m2v, for example narnia.m2v.
