Re: Problem with output file after adding subtitle

I have tried to add subtitle to 1.36 GB avi file but output file was with size about 250 MB and the divx player cannot open it. What is the problem ? The reason bad muxing (usualy because of using NANDUB). The solution (works 100%) is to open the bad file with VirtualdubMOD and resave it with ...

The files have to be on your hard disc (it doesn't work from CD!) in a folder that doesn't contain non-english characters (if your windows isn't in english - the desktop or my documents won't work!!!).
And some XviD's will never work

Possible improvements for AVISUB

i really liked all of the new improvements, specialy "seems that divxmux cannot handle this avi... sorry". but this error message gives the idea that something is wrong, but doesn't give the reason. right now the divxmux.bat contains c:\tmp99\1\divxmux.exe -v "C:\test1.avi" -s (Subtitle - en;02) "c ...

the reason is incorrect PAL/NTSC detection. if you take the same file and change the TV type on the DVD to NTSC it WILL show the subtitles.
this usualy happens with low resolution videos

1. changing fourcc from XVID to DIVX is useless - the reason isn't the fourcc - it's a feature in the XVID compresion that DIVX doesn't support. you can find the real reason by using dmfcheck. 2.VBR isn't bad - only bad VBR muxing (like in nandub and some old versions of AVIMUX) - regenerating these ...

as far as i know it's impossible to extract the subtitles from the .divx (you will need the original SUB/SRT) but you can reuse the A/V - just do direct stream copy in virtualdub and you will get the original file without the subtitles also you can simply readd the subtitles to the .divx (rename it ...

more problems (the reason is in the buggy divxmux)

if the source avi has dropframes then the output will be with NOT syncronised audio (divxmux ignores them and proceeds to the next frame)
the files that need regenration (with avimux or virtualdubmod) usually are the files wich had been created with NANDUB (hardware players hate that files too)
