I found the solution. Open the .srt in Notepad and choose save as.
Here you have to change the "Encoding" from Unicode to ANSI and save.
That's it!

I have the same problem as you guys. All my Prison Break ep. work fine to add subtitles with AviSub, but not Lost and 24. After doing some research I came up with a working method.
