4.7G DVD-R limit exceeded

Post by LordBritish »

There has been times when the 4.7G limit for a DVD-R has been exceeded by avi2dvd.

It was very close to the limit but still over by a hair. I was attempting to burn with Nero and it would not let me burn because the data would not fit on an empty DVD-R.

Please fix this.

Encoder was CinemaCraft using 3 pass.

BTW, this is not the only product to exceed such limits. I've seen this type of "bug" on DVD Shrink and DVD2One.

I guess it must be hard to limit the data size to a known limit.

Oh yes, I solved my problem by using DVD Shrink to shrink the data.

So it went like this.

avi (divx) -> avi2dvd -> DVDShrink -> burn

Yes, the video was re-encoded twice but there was no option.

I would have prefered not to have re-encoded it again using DVD Shrink.

The ISO file that was produced by avi2dvd (v0.3.2) was 4,748,308,480 Bytes in size.

Nero wil not burn an ISO that big on to a standard DVD-R.

The DVD length problem has not been fixed as of v0.3.5.

I have not figured out what causes it.

I'm converting a AVI (DivX) video to DVD.

I have the "PAL to NTSC" option on and using CCE encoder.

So I still have to use DVD Shrink after avi2dvd is done in order to reduce the size

I do hope it's fixed in v0.3.6.

Please fix it because it is a fairly serious problem.

It IS a serious problem. Only, in my case the DVD was much too big (using cce), 5,GB!

This was the first time the ntsc to pal option was enabled. Could that have caused the problem?

Also, the audio is distorted. The pitch is far too low.
The menu doesn't work either, the chapters don't start at the correct place.
