Multiple AVI episodes to 1 DVD
Hi guys
I cross-posted this in the wrong forum...
http://www.trustfm.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=923
So any mod can feel free to delete that one.
I'm using 0.4.0 beta - will upgrade when I know if this is possible.
I have some xvid avi files that are tv episodes that form part of a series.
With AVI2DVD I see you can convert one avi file to a whole DVD like a movie, or join multiple avi files into one, then convert it to a DVD.
But is it possible to have AVI2DVD take 5 tv episodes and create a DVD, with each episode being a separate episode / scene?
Then use the DVD menu to switch between the episodes?
Is that possible with AVI2DVD???
Also, because an xvid avi file is a compressed file, I don't want to lose any quality when converting back to DVD.
I want to use QuEnc as in AVI2DVD it says it's the best quality but slower.
What QuEnc options should I select to make sure I get the best quality??
Should I tick the 'Extreme' checkbox?
I'm not bothered by the encoding time - just want to make sure I don't lose any quality when converting back to a DVD!
What audio bitrate should I choose on the output tab, to not lose quality converting back to DVD?
384 is selected already. Would changing that to 640 make a big difference?
This is such a great program - seems to have all the options easy to reach!!
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks
Ben

As for the linking the file it is possible to do, name them in sequence (like "<name> CD1") and when you load it the tab will say multiple files loaded or something along those lines. For better quality a standard dvd 5 is meant to hold about 2 hours of video, if its more than that you may want to consider getting a dvd 9 for it (their dual layer and hold up to 8.5 gig instead of the dvd 5 4.7gig but just forewarning you they are more expensive dvds). As for the each being a separate scene you can use the menu thing to create chapters and all that but it will play them in order and not like separate them because the program thinks it?s all one movie file just split. I personally use the HCEnc encoder, but if you want to increase quality increase the passes as well. Note how the CCE plug-in has 4 passes default, 2 passes is good but more are better. I'm not sure with the audio I just leave it at the default, but the default bit rate is always fine for me I think it's automatically read from the file and that is the files original bit rate (But I am not sure about that, get a second opinion). Also if you have the time to spare and the hard drive space run the program twice one with each audio, then get like Daemon tools or something and mount the iso to a virtual drive, this way you can preview it and not have to waste a disc. I would also check after you make it to make sure the quality is what you want.
Rather than joining the files, I've been looking for a way to author a DVD with multiple PGC titles.
So far I've found the open source DVDAuthorGUI
http://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl
But I'm having trouble converting from xvid to mpeg2 in a format that's compatible with DVDAuthorGUI
Everything I've found takes a few hours.
I've also tried using ConvertXtoDVD but options for building the menu are very limited - but it is lots quicker and works well.
It'd be great to have a feature to handle multiple title PGCs in Avi2DVD!

Can't load multiple AVI's
All:
I can't seem to get AVI2DVD to accept multiple AVI's as you suggest.
I rename each AVI <name CD1.avi, name CD2.avi, etc.>. After I load each of them separately only the last one shows in Step 1, and when I click on Add Job only that last one shows in the box.
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.
Bob.

Merging AVIs didn't give me the solution I wanted.
I wanted to have each TV episode as a separate DVD PGC title.
I didn't use Avi2DVD to do that in the end as I couldn't find how to do it.
In the end I found an app called ConvertXToDVD which lets you do all that and create a basic menu.
More info on that app... http://www.vso-software.fr
Good luck!
