Hi guys,
I downloaded the first codec suggested by the administrator and that seemed to do the trick.
I killed the job after about 6 hours cos I thought nothing was happening. but I let it run the second time without interfering and I got my iso file which I successfully got onto dvd.
It took 10 hours to run the avi2dvd job but it was a 22gb avi file.

So many thanks to you both for helping out. Much appreciated.
I am now an avi2dvd fan!
