If you want to have an 100% compatible movie then the ONLY way these days is to convert your movie (avi) on dvd using avi2dvd and buy adding your subtitles .
As you can see this site offers to you ALL the possibles ways to add subtitles on an dvd/divx
-DVD+SUBTITLES
txt2sup (without reencoding)
avi2dvd (with reencode)
-AVI+SUBTITLES
txt2vobsub (vobsub compatible players)
avisub (xsub compatible players)
-PC Reproduction+SUBTITLES
arpa kolla player
As you can see i implemented all the possible ways that can possibly applied on the problem MOVIE+SUBS ....

I tried your method but after loading subtitles and during generation avisub stop working.
did you try to do it via virtualdubmod? instead of avimux_gui try virtualdubmod. I had the same problems with avimux.[/quote]
I had the same problem with avimuxgui too.
De-activating "use Open-DML output" in the settings menu of avimuxgui worked for me on a couple of problem files.
You might try that.

hi
if you are getting this message " seems divxmux cannot handle this avi file, try the followings
1. Open avi files with avimux gui.
Generate data source from file.
Before Start Save avi ensure "change dwFourCC "DX50"
to "divx" under Setting Input AVI is unchecked
2.Demux first both video & audio streams of saved avi ( (1) above ),
with VirtualDubMod then remux them back again.
When demux & remux make sure you are in Direct Stream Copy
mode.
Certain audio MP3 stream do post problem for Divxmux.
I suggest recoding to AC with FFMPEGGui prior to
muxing with VirtualDubMod for such cases. Process will just take a few
minutes.
3. Finally load the mux avi file ( (2) above ) and subtitle files into
AviSub to generate divx subbed file

Sometimes, if the sound is VBR you need to answear "no" to the first question of virtualdubmod after loading the problematic file (if you answear "yes" you will receive file with desynhronised audio).
Not every file works with this method, but I made my whole series of Lost 2 to work this way. With Doctor Who it adds sibtitles, divx player shows them, but in my Philips DVDR 3380/05 it recognises, that there ARE subtitles, but doesn't show them. Have no idea why. Anyone can help?
WoooooooooooooooooW
Thank you
Your method is really working for all my avi that cannot work with avisub
Thanks again

I tried changing the header but nothing happened, the same problem occurred.
I don't understand all the previous episodes from 1-13 worked with avisub without any problem but from 14 to the finale the message appears!
Also I noticed that the video sample size has been changed form episode 14 to be 12 bit instead of 24 bit for most of the following episode.
Is this might be the problem?
