great thank you ( oh about that memory error i?ve encoded a movie with hc gui and all went well wonder what could that be ? only happens with hcbatchtrustfm wrote:ok lunario this option can be done easily ... i will try to add this on the nexte releases ... (it will stop on 1 mpv 1 srt 1 ac3 file )
I dont know if this is ok ....
I think this is a great program!!! I would like to see the ability to have more chapter options and ability to have more control over settings that the encoders use.
Keep up the GREAT work!!
p.s. by chapter options what I would like is to be able to enter a timecode (I notice this is handled in the .xml script at the end) perhaps if the program gives the option to edit the .xml before creating the .iso? I am using home movies and I would really like to put chapter markers where one stops and the next begins so that I can have more than one per dvd (dv is only 90min max)

feature requests
Hi, and thank you so much for Avi2Dvd! It is what I have been looking for, for a long time! I would like to request some features that would finally make it the only thing I need besides VirtualDub. (and maybe Audacity) Some of these have already been requested, but I just want to list all the ones I am thinking of here: (sorry for the repeats, but at least these ideas are together in one post now!)
First, the ability to make chapters anywhere you want, and also still keep the 5,10,15. . . minute chapters choices. I think Trust FM already mentioned something about IfoEdit control being included, so I hope that will give custom control to chapters, I haven't used it.
Second, the ability to make simple menus. This would be a huge help if it was very simple. This would go great with the next request, so if you have more than 1 movie or clip on a DVD, you could have a menu to choose what file to watch.
Third, the ability to make movie files into custom sizes, so you can fit more than one movie onto a DVD. This would help with converting my VHS movies into fewer DVDs.
Fourth, and I'm sorry if the answer is right in front of me, and I don't know if it's possible without making the video look stretched out, but I wonder if there is a way to make 4/3 video into 16/9 video.
I mean, I have tried setting both AR settings to 16/9, and I get bars on the top and bottom, but they also are on the sides. Will that give me side bars on a widescreen TV because there is no other way to do it without a stretched look? I am working with captured 4/3 VHS video. When I do AR to 4/3 input and 16/9 output, I get only bars on top and bottom, but it is stretched. So if the 16/9 on both AR settings leaves bars on all sides, will the video stretch on a wide screen both ways equally and look fine?
Okay, fifth, and finally, input stuff. Would it be hard to also allow MPEG2 files to be used as input? That's not totally important, but the other input option that would be cool would be the ability to choose a seperate audio file. Speaking of audio, would it be possible to add a gain control for audio? A gain control that allows you to choose a decibel level by number would rule! The standard level on gain tools like MP3Gain and WavGain, which is 89.0 dB, is close to average TV volume, and it keeps all movies at the same volume. (As long as you do NOT choose clipping prevention, which messes up your settings) One more thing, how about normalize? I understand that it's different from gain, so would it make the loud and quiet parts in a movie the same loudness, so you can finally fix those dumb movies with talking you can barely hear, but action that blasts your ears?
Thank you for letting me post these requests, and please, PLEASE keep Avi2Dvd free forever! It's so great to have this awesome program to use! Pirating/stealing programs just hurts everyone, especially honest people, so thank you so much for giving video editors some free, powerful tools! I'm looking forward to converting my VHS tapes to DVD - please keep up the great work!

lusono dont worry i will try at any cost to keep avi2dvd free
the 1 question i could implement it but not right now ... give me some time
2) you have to give me A LOT of time for that ... i will try it but at versions like 0.50 some kind of ...
3) in order to fit them you must do an multi mpv author that it is some kind of tricky ... :S
4) yes you can in order to do this is to put at step 1 aspect ratio 16/19 and at step 2 aspect ratio 16/9 again ! (ok you get bars but they MUST be small no ? not like the black bars of an 16/9 film shown on an 4/3 tv right)?
5) i will check out this ...

Trust FM thank you
Wow, thank you so much, Trust FM, for such a fast and kind response! It is so amazing to have a great program like Avi2Dvd in the first place, and it's even better now because it's author actually cares, and keeps working to make it better!
About the aspect ratio thing, I do put the settings like you said, and on my 4/3 display TV, I get bars on top and bottom and sides, and it also looks this way in full screen on the computer. I will test my video maybe at a local store on a widescreen TV to see what it looks like.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about what your fans would like to see in your program, and for all the improvements you make! Thanks again!

I would like to see an option to add letterboxes to the source. This would fix the problem i am having where i cannot properly encode anamorphic widescreen because the source file is not actually 16/9 ratio.
This can best be described with an example...
I have a source file with a resolution of 624*256. This aspect ratio is actually WIDER than 16/9 aspect ratio. What i'm asking for is an option to add a border across the top and bottom using this formula:
((<horizontal resolution of source>*9/16)-<Vertical resolution of source>)/2
... Rounded up. This yields the number of pixels to add to the top and bottom of the source file with an Addborder() function
in my case this would cause this:
((624*9/16)-256)/2
or 48 after rounding up.
so it could add an "addborder(0,48,0,48) line BEFORE the lanzcosresize line in the avisynth script.
This would prevent the lanzcosresize function from vertically stretching the image.
On a side note, WHY is there an addborder function AFTER the lanzcosresize function in the avisynth scripts that are being generated now? that breaks the aspect ratio, and unless the mpeg2 encoder knows how to remove the extra letterboxing, it horizontally distorts the video a second time! not to mention that i would rather not let the mpeg2 encoder use its own resize function to bring it back to 16/9 (if it didn't detect the letterboxing right)

I would like to explain here some things .
Every film processed has THREE AR .
1.First AR is the one that already have the AVI.
2.The INPUT AVISYNTH AR
3. tHE INPUT ENCODER AR
the ar 2 is the INPUT AR on step 1
the ar 3 is the OUTPUT AR on step 2
the first AR is calculated automatically and on load is the SAME with the ar2 which is CORRECT if the ar of yours film is CORRECT . If you want to change it because your film has wrong ar you can change the ar2 from step 1 .
The best tool to prove you that you are wrong is fitCD which is leader on the AR changings . Avi2dvd does exactly what does fitcd
Ps : avi2dvd resize in base of ITU-R BT.601-4 so yours formulas are complete wrong since you do not care about the PAR / DAR relationship . [/quote]

I do not wish to start an argument, but i beleive there may have been a miscommunication on my part.
The AR on my film is wider than 16/9.
Its actually 39/16. (or ~16/6.56 -- not quite as tall)
When I select 16/9 input and output (the #2 and #3 AR's) It vertically stretches the image to fit that aspect ratio. I wanted to avoid this by ADDING LETTERBOXES to the source file (before any conversions are done)
This would make the new source file 624*352. One pixel away from a perfect 16/9 AR source file, without the fuss of stretching the image.
If you want, i can arrange to send you a sample source file you can experiment on to see my problem.
