QuEnc, FreeEnc, NuEnc Problems

Post by gonwk »

Hi, :D

First of all I want to THANK the Author(s) for this Dummy Proof program for someone like me ... a newbie who has no clue about writing any .avs script or other technical term.

I have been using this program to experiment and learn ... I have converted some AVI clips (I keep them short so they get done faster) to DVD using this program ... and I will list the probelms that I have encountered ... so the next version can be even better ...

Oh, I have to tell you that I have done something ... which I am not sure if that is what is causing my problems. Since this program AVI2DVD 0.4.4 has not been upgraded since May 2006, I decided to upgrade the components of it individually ... so I have gone into AVI2DVD folder and exchanged the programs for the latest version available ... for example I installed the latest HCEncoder, Besplit, DGMPGDec, and so forth. I did not bother upgrading the "Filters" that I was not sure what they are or how to do it or where to get it from.

Here are my problems ... and not in any specific order ... "P" stands for Problem ...

P1: AVI2DVD comes with QuEnc 0.61 ... I tried using QuEnc 0.70 and 0.71 and both times I get a Pop-up window which says (Bad Parameter=MPEG2) then disappears and the QuEnc 0.70 or 0.71 goes ahead and does it's thing ... so I am not sure if this is just an Alert message or it actually affects the Quality of completed output!?!?!?

P2: I used FreeEnc 0.50 that comes with the program ... because I was interested in seeing how fast will encode. I used 1 Pass, and 2 Pass and both times the output DVD was WAY out-of-sync ... Audio and Video were out-of-sunc .. I would guess about 4 to 6 seconds or more!?!?!?

P3: I used NuEnc 0.01b that came with AVI2DVD 0.4.4 ... the encoder worked fine as long as you leave the Passes on 2 ... I tried it with 1 Pass and the output DVD picture had lines thru it.

P4: For practicing I had converted one of my chinese martial movie with subtitle from scratch to avi using H264 and when I tried to convert it back using AVI2DVD ... I got a message that it cannot find the 264 Decompressor ... whatever that means!?!? Can you tell me what I need to do ... or can AVI2DVD handle these kinds of files!?!?!

Now for the good news ... just in case some other "Newbie" is looking for pointers ...

1) I used AVI2DVD with QuEnc 0.61 in standard mode (the 3 check marks ... using Hi Quality ... and it gave me a Good Quality DVD from AVI. I tried the "Extreme" and "2 Pass encoding" and I Could NOT tell the difference ... but I have Old Eyes ... so!!!!

2) I used AVI2DVD 0.4.4 with my new version of HCEnc 0.19.0.1 ... and chose "BEST" profile and "MPEG" output ... and viola ... very good DVD output quality ... the only thing it takes much longer.

I looked over both QuEnc Standard and HCEnc Best dvd's over ... and to my unprofessional eyes, I could not really tell a difference.

Thanks,
G! :)

0 byte mp3 file

Post by Riscysite »

In version 0.4.4 I encountered the problem of a 0 byte file.
It turned out to be the mp3's filename ('fixed_audio01' mp3 was the expected filename, where ?xtracted_audio01' appeared in the temp directory and had been cleared directly after error reporting.

Thus: no film!
Just because a non-editible output filename!

Sofar I could not manage any AVI file with separate subtitles to become a DVD. Too bad! Maybe later?

I did a search and don't see it mentioned, but I still get oversized discs with 0.6.1.
