Post by godfather6969 »

hi there everybody..1st of all i would like to inform you that i have never done the encoding thing before,,so what im asking here is some help from you gents..
now i have an avi file (divx) which is 350 MB size, and i would like to convert it to a dvd so i can watch it on my player and ofcourse with the subtitle added, now my question is : will the 1 output(the dvd ) be in a large size 4.7 giga after the conversion? what size will the output be??? i mean will it take the whole space of the blank dvd ?? how can i make 2 or more avi files all in one 4.7 dvd?? when i started encoding i was asked to have a 9 giga of my hard disk,so what to do when my hard disk is approximatly full??
i really need direct steps to guide me do that..and i want to know how long does it usually take from to convert an avi(divx) file? is it according to the computer's ram ??
i really appreciate your help

and one more question..how can i make the conversion fast and high quality at the same time,,i want the best setting t do that,,because im converting a 350 mb avi file and its been 4 hours till now and its done yet,,i have the default seetings and chose two pass encoding, trellis quant, vbr, high quality..the disk space i chose it 4.7 , and audio bitrate is 384,aspect ratio is 16/9..now should i change some of these setting in order to make the conversion faster ?? should i keep the disk size the same if u want to burn more than 2 avi files to the dvd form? or let me rephrase the question : what is the size of the avi after the conversion to dvd??
thank a lot

How I do it

Post by NIEKOS »

Hi there,

I believe I have had the same problem as you do.
Lots of episodes from 350 MB in avi and I want them on a dvd as well.
I do it as follow:

1. Load the avi file in avi2dvd with the (avi mode)
- audio language (English)
- Aspect Ratio (16/9)
2. chose (dvd or svcd) and (dvd 4.7 Gb)
- Chapter every (5) minutes
- My TV is Pal so I chose for (Ntfs to Pal)
- I do not want an ISO (make iso) file because I want more episodes on one dvd
- Chose a destination folder on a HDD where you can put 10 GB.
- most avi have mp3 for audio so audio bitrate (192 or 224) to synchronise audio with video
3. I use QuEnc Encoder with standard settings
4. Select subtitle (srt format)
- Select language for subtitle
- Front face Arial TTF, Size 26, bottom Margin 35

Click Add Job

If you have more episodes you want to do, do this again and add the job.
Chose a different output folder!! When you have 1 or more jobs, and before you start remember to put off your virus scanner your screensaver and your energy settings so the computer does not switch off anything, or run an other program..
I do this when I am a sleep.. So I click the (shutdown when done) and click the (GO!!!)
I put my screen out and the next morning the files are on my computer..
350 mb will be around 1GB till 1.5GB.

Now I open DVD Shrink and click the Re-Author button
I select the episodes and backup the file on my hard disc

Now I load this new Vob again in avi2dvd but with the dvd mode and make a nice menu..
And the output as a ISO and burn it on a DVD?

Hope this helps you out..

If all episodes are in the same resolution AVI2DVD can join them into one DVD, all you need to do is to put all files in one directory and rename them like this:
episode 1.avi
episode 2.avi
episode 3.avi
etc...

you should load the first episode
episode CD1.avi
THEN THE
episode CD2.avi
episode CD3.avi
episode CD4.avi
will be loaded automatically ...

The new version will be easier ... im working on it right now !
