OK, so I decided to fix this problem I was having once and for all.
I uninstalled and reinstalled just about every media codec I could think of. Here's what I've installed, in order:
GOM Player
Quicktime
RealPlayer
Ffdshow
DivX codec
XviD codec
AC3 filter
Morgan Switcher
I no longer get the 'access violation at 00000000' error whenever I try to load any avi file. Now I just get 'Interface not supported' instead.
Are my codecs conflicting? Someone, please let me know what the problem might be.
Many thanks!

Re: Interface not supported... help?
I got this problem, then installed some additional codecs (combined community codec pack). Now i can load .avi files fine, but when I try and convert .mkv files, I get the 'interface not supported' message. Does it make a difference that before I loaded the codec pack I couldn't open the files with anything, but now they appear with the windows media player logo?wyndhover wrote:

sorry if this is basic - new to all this.
I am getting the exact same thing with mkv files trying to be loaded into avi2dvd. If i load the original long name file into it it is fine but obviously complains about the long file name and symbols etc. However i been searching high and low in the forum for the solution without luck.......until now.
I am going to try it tonight and keep you posted. Aparantly according to trustfm avi2dvd doesn't parse video containers with subtitles included. So basically i am going to strip the subs and then resave the mkv without it. Not sure if it going to work but only thing i have found so far in this forum.
Wish me luck
