sup delayed after converted

I have a DVD and an srt file.

I play the DVD with KMPlayer and load the srt file and the timing looks good.

I use then txt2sup to convert it to .sup files.
The DVD is demuxed by pcgDemux (.m2v + ac3) then muxed again by ifoEdit (.m2v + ac3 + sup).

Now the new dvd shows subtitle a little blt slower (+300 millisecond).

My temp solution: force the original srt to -300 millisecond and restart the job AGAIN.

I find a software called DVDsubEdit with which I can re-position a number of subtitle lines (which I hope in the future can be done by txt2sup). This software can do retiming for selected subtitles (I can do only one at a time, so it is useless for my problem)

My question is:
1) What is the cause of the delay? txt2sup? IfoEdit?
2) Is there any software that can reset the delay without reauthoring?
3) What should I do to make sure the sups will be on time in the next authoring?

It turned out that txt2sup caused the wrong timing, especially for NTSC mode

It shows that the delay is not constant. I met this issues with two DVD in a row, both NTSC. Anybody faced the same prob around here? Any suggestion to fix it?

in PAL mode, the .sub files ended up in good timing.

yes timings can be ''wrong'' (under 100ms) but not 7 seconds !

Do you use the 42.9 version ?

ok i did a LOT of investigations ....

1) I leaved your subs intact and i just loaded them to subtitle creator . Both of them have the correct times (no 7 sec delay)

2) From your srt i did a new NTSC sup file with subtitlecreator. Then i loaded the sup file to subtitlecreator and i got the same correct imes.

3) I downloaded DVDSubEdit and i loaded YOUR NTSC sup and infact i have the delay of the 7 seconds.

4) I Loaded the NTSC sup file generated by subtitlecreator .... BANG delay of 7 seconds...

I do not know i think we have a DVDSubEdit bug here ...

Just when I gave up, I remember manono said something about 30fps .vs 29.97fps. I opened Subtitle Workshop, loaded the file, set the input FPS as 29.27 and the output as 30, and there the "wrong" timing was seen.

I then put it the other way round, input as 30 and output as 29.97, saved the file. and made .sup again in NTSC mode. This time txt2sup converted it back to the RIGHT timing.


Anyway this is wayyyy weird ...

sorry to upset you but I think what DVDSubEdit shows is the timing of the final DVD. My workaround now is like this.

1) srt => sup by txt2sup (hope that you can support format tags)
2) resync the sup with the original srt by Subtitle Creator (the "Load Synchronized Subtitle..." feature) - also hope that txt2sup can do this.

This is only need for NTSC mode. there is nothing wrong with PAL mode. And yes, you were right, Subtitle Creator also granted the same issue in NTSC mode, and I also have to go back to step 2).

I have this delay = sometimes even STRETCHED delay playing subs = starts good ends verry wrong like playing seconds to soon or too late !!!!

I use mainly srt2sup = txt2sup for subtitles and muxman for compiling ! And subedit to rectify color (when working whit ifo but whitout subtitle info available for the right color that is)! Whit every especialy "NTSC" movie , pall movies aswell i have like EXACTLY 2 seconds from start to end!
so my work arround is simple adding delay in srt before converting them to sup
But now i had an movie which start to play subs fine but ended wrong despite that delay i added before convertion !!! Now, i have to time the delay from the last subtitle showing in the movie and working whit "stretched delay" .

Verry annoying!
