hcbatch works without any errors on diko, so i don?t know how that memory error came up with avi2dvd and others. hank released a new version 0.15 but i think the problem isn?t the batch because diko run fine without the memory error

Fixed in HCEnc 0.15 ?

I just installed the newly released HCEnc 0.15 and tried a short 2 minute video and I did NOT get the memory error. With HCEnc 0.14 I would get memory errors every time. I will next try a longer video (over 1 hour) - hopefully the memory errors are gone as I prefer to use the HC encoder and would like to be able to do batch conversions.

Can the new version of HC just be unzipped to avi2dvd folder & overwrite .14?

Sadly, HCEnc 0.15 still gives the memory error. I just tried a longer video (1 hour 20 minutes) and at the end of the run it showed the memory error. It's interesting to me that the MPEG-2 video file is good even with the error. Another user posted that using DIKO and HCEnc there is no error - what could be the cause?

Yes, it is easy to use the new 0.15 version of HCEnc instead of 0.14 that comes with AVI2DVD 0.3.0. Under the path "Program Files / AVI2DVD / Programs" is a directory called "HCEnc". For backup I made a subfolder called "HCEnc 0.14" and moved all the 0.14 files into it. Then I unzipped the 0.15 files into the "HCEnc" folder. You will also need to rename "HCbatch_015.exe" to "HCbatch.exe" and "HCGUI_015.exe" to "HCGUI.exe" to work with AVI2DVD (since these were the file names for HCEnc 0.14).

Hank315, the author of HCEnc, noted that there is less quality difference between the profiles now and he recommended trying the "normal" profile if you've been using "good" or "best". I'm trying this now to see how it looks.

Thanks for the how to on updating HC within A2D. I wonder what Hank's thoughts are on this memory issue. As you stated, after closing the error box, you can continue on with the conversion. However it totally kills one of the best features of this app - unattended avi->DVD conversions. I guess no matter how great Hanks HC is, unless this issue can be solved, it's pretty pointless to use it.
Guess I'll try Diko again & see how that works. Wasn't too excited about it last time & I like A2D's layout/function much better...
