Many thanks! I took a look at Diko yesterday & just do not like it.
I much prefer A2D in both layout, & ease of use. If we can only solve this meomry issue....

trustfm: Yes, thanks for looking into this error!

I will try DIKO and HCEnc on these same video files and see if I get the memory error or not and report back. Perhaps this information will be useful.

I agree with cbc, AVI2DVD is a great program and I prefer it to other tools I've tried. Great work, trustfm!

As I read the DIKO forums to learn how to switch DIKO to use HCEnc, I found that DIKO users have also had the memory read error:

http://www.vmesquita.com/forum/index.php?topic=2687.15

(look for the post by king)

Looking at the HCEnc forums, other people have been reporting this error as well (one person was using AVI2DVD):

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t ... e=10&pp=20

(look for post by i4529 - there are also a few posts earlier that complained about the memory error.)

This tells me the problem is not with AVI2DVD. One person suggested that HCbatch may be the problem. I will post over in the HCEnc forum - hopefully Hank315 will have some comment.

This sure is a strange bug! Maybe with enough comments on it in different user forums, Hank can suss out a fix & present it to the world.

I have a small software called Free Ram XP Pro that shows the memory usage and that can help to free more memory (for example after closing another software, as Windows, even XP, doesn't always free the memory previously used).

I have tested Avi2DVD with 3 of the four proposed encoder. I have noted that only with HCbatch my free memory dropped down below 110 Mo after some minutes of encoding (my PC has 1 Go). When I ask Free Ram to do its job, during the encoding job, it succeeds and I can get about 400 Mo of free memory.

So perhaps HCBatch doesn't manage well the memory and when reaching a certain level of free memory, it crashes.

What do you think of this ?

I add two things :
- I didn't read all the posts on this problem, so perhaps I am wrong.
- I have never observed such a problem on my PC with HCbatch and Avi2DVD

As this is my first post here, I'd like to say thank you to trustfm for the very nice software

I'm using 1GB of RAM, plus 2.0 GB paging file, and CachemanXP, but HC will still throw out the mem error msg. Perhaps there's a memory leak in the HCBatch somewhere. I know next to nothing about coding apps, so I'm just guessing , but it seems enough ppl are getting it so it appears to be an issue that needs a fix.

There has been more reports and discussion of the memory read error on the HC Encoder thread over on the Doom9 forums:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t ... e=14&pp=20

Sounds like it's being looked at and a fix may be coming.
