My AVI file must have had some AC3 problems, because although the demux process seemed to work, the re-muxing failed to work properly, because of an error that occured while MPLEX.EXE was running. This resulted in a loss of about 4 hours of work.

So based on that, here are my requests:
  1. Create a more detailed logfile, which shows the command line options that run each external program (BeSweet, LAME, MPLEX, mkisofs, etc), along (if possible) with the output of those programs. When MPLEX.EXE crashed, the DOS window it was running in disappeared so fast, I couldn't see what the error message was!
  2. Make an option to NOT delete temporary files until the entire process is complete and the user clicks a "Delete" button. I eventually figured out how to correct my AC3 audio using AC3Fix, but unfortunately as soon as MPLEX.EXE crashed, AVI2DVD deleted the "Pulldown_Video.m2v" file, making it impossible for me to manually resume the process.
  3. List the name of the AVI file being converted somewhere in the logfile. This is more minor, but sometimes I keep logfiles from different times when I run AVI2DVD. I was surprised that the name of the AVI file I was converting didn't appear anywhere in the logfile.
If AVI2DVD will list all the programs it runs, along with their command-line options, I can use that information to manually continue the process at any point during the process if something goes wrong and I need to correct something before continuing.

Thank you for a great product! I hope these suggestions can make it an even better one.

EDIT: As a followup, what about this style of logfile? (I think it comes from AVI2SVCD, though I'm not positive). Could AVI2DVD generate something like this? http://tinyurl.com/8shsq

output before authoring

I don't want to use builtin authoring so would REALLY be nice to not delete output before authoring.

also:

- i had 2 files (divx) and (DIVX) both were OpenSourceDivX5 - but avi2dvd complained they were different - i would guess because header was case sensitive

- i have mutliple files all at 16:9 to mux and convert; but they are different resolutions - and avi2dvd can't handle this.

- would be nice to be able to adjust vol for AC3 (at input); i have a "loud" AC3 AVI which sounds great; but when converting it the DVD audio is distorted

hello all:
First ,I want To Say You All Thank's For This Grate App.
I Didn't Already Success With It ,But I'll learn It And hope To Success.

This Are My opinions:

1.In The Image Possibility ,It Will Be Nice To Make Also An ISO Image And Not Only Bin And Cue(If That Exists ,Ignore This And Tell Me How Do You Do It).

2.On Setup ,The Included Soft Must Be Optional ,Because Now I Have 4-5
Times VirtualModDub Besweet ect..).It Will Be Nice To Tell The Software
Where Are The Sofwares Are Located In My Comp

3.When Choosen SVCD ,Calculate The AVg Bitrate Before The Encoding
Starts.

4.an option to make ksvcd as DIKO Software DO.
ksvcd = 700MB in SVCD format

5.Accept Special Characters ,AS say's above.

6.a possiblity to say to "AVI2DVD" Which are the Movies To be Joined
And Ther Subtitles ,Without The isue To Renamed Them.

Would be nice to see a "save as default" on creating Start and chapter buttons text, whenever I create a DVD, I add a button text using whatever font I require for a project, say "comic sans serif, bold, size 14" then when I create more, it's reverted back to original settings "arial, normal, size 21", would be great if settings could be saved as default once setup.

EDIT
Just wanted to mention what a great job you are doing with
avi2dvd, your hard work is very much appreciated m8.

Dear Trustfm,

These are some valuable options I miss the most:

- At the output tab, choosing a custom disksize

argumentation: When converting small Xvid encoded episodes from a tv show to DVD, the 99min cdr option offers too little quality, and and a 4.7 GB dvd is overkill.

- At the output tab, choosing a custom bitrate:

argumentation: see above, adjusting the bitrate migth just be a little more flexible

- Support for latest CCE encoder

argumentation: Although quality is exellent (at least for me it is) quality can be boosted even further using the latest encoder version.

Lastly I would like to thank you a lot for this exellent quality software. By the time you reach a final version this program will rock :!:

I don't now how hard it is for you to implement these options, but I hope you will consider them

best regards,

Jeroen

Just downloaded 0.4.4 beta - great new features - thank you trustfm!

Back in June 2005 (click page 6 of this forum) I suggested an option for the Output to select Disc size OR a target filesize. Trustfm replied that this feature would be added - any idea when?
