Any file I convert always wants 9.7 gb?

So I have all these movies I am trying to fit on a 4.7 gb DVD but everytime I go to encode it says it needs 9.7 gigs. Is it going to make a 9.7 gig file? That wont fit on my DVD. I tried a 5 minute AVI and it still wants 9.7 gigs. Is it trying to make a 9.7 gig file or does it just need the space?

no wants 9.7gb because of the iso file (x2)

its basically giving u a "worst case" scenario so it tells u, it needs 9GB but it doesnt take up 9GB for a 5 min movie.
