Xvid to SVCD, aspect ratio problem.

I've got a 16:9 700 meg copy of an Xvid movie I'm trying to convert to a single 700 meg SVCD disc.
No matter which combination of input or output aspect ratio settings I choose (it defaults to 16:9 in both places) the resulting SVCD disc is played in 4:3 (no black bars above or below the picture, everything is stretched vertically).
I've tested it in two different players and unfortunately neither they nor the TV has a forced widescreen setting to compensate.
Source Video: XVID 640x352 25.00fps 865Kbps [Video 0]
Result Video: MPEG2 Video 480x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 2530Kbps [Video] (It's extremely squeezed together horisontally when played on a PC).
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
