IFO Problems

Post by DrJBN »

Dear all,

I believe I found my chapter list probelm I posted earlier, but I am not yet sure because I have another odd thing occurring. I am getting an empty .ifo file.

Usually I get two .ifo files. Video_TS.ifo and VTS_01_0.ifo. Now I seem to be getting the former, and not the latter. Moreover, the Video_TS.ifo file is Zero bytes.

I have found reference to similar problems in a search of the postings, but no solid answer (..least not that I could follow given my knowledge of these issues).

I have six 42 min episodes I have joined. I want to make 6 chapters. I enter the chapter list times and they now stay as I put them (one cannot add the job and then set the chapter list.. duh).

But, now my IFO file is not being created. I create the menu using the avi2dvd menu editor, I use the same background I've used before, I set the same background sound, I add one start button and 6 chapter buttons.

I assign the menu to the current job, and save it. This has always worked fine for me in the past (though I've never had more than 4 chapter buttons).

But now, when the DVD directory is created, the file corresponding to the menu is there (the .ifo file) , but it is zero bytes. There is nothing in the log to indicate any errors.

I have run this twice, (using freeenc and hcenc) and each time I get the same, an empty .ifo file. I seem to have the video_ts directory and all my Vob and bub files.

Any suggestions?

If this problem continues, what can I do with all the other files to make them viewable on my DVD player?

All the best,
Byron

More about it, and one solution

Post by DrJBN »

I was watching the output of one of the dos programs which avi2dvd calls. I cannot recall the name, it is the one that takes the mpg file and creates the DVD directory, vob and ifo files. I saw a message fly by befor it quit that it could not create chapter five because only 4 were available. I suppose this caused it to fail on the IFO creation.

I double checked my chapter list values and they were correct.

THe VOB files seem to create fine. I renamed the final one to mpg and played it. It corresponded to the end of my 6th episode.

I downloaded and used IFOedit.exe to create a new IFO for the VOBs so that I can at least play the results on my DVD player, though all the chapter info is gone.

Any help regarding why its not taking the chapter list and processing of the ifo is failing would be much appreciated. But, if no solution exists, at least the processing time in obtaining the VOBs isn't a waste.

All the best to the forum,
Byron

as far as i can see this is an athoring problem but can be possibly generated by using a lot films ...
I still work on the multifilm version of avi2dvd. JOINING THE FILES WITH PROGRAMS LIKE VDUB ETC might is the key of your problems ...

The new avi2dvd version will not join the files in one ! so it will be much safer to join and then autor with success the files...
