SD Sorter - Official Page
Latest Version : 1.1 (Freeware)
SD cards usually are FAT-32 formatted.
The order of the inserted files is kept in a so called "files table" inside the file system.
Advanced operating systems like Windows, Linux or Android can sort the files on runtime by reading and re-sorting the FAT-32 "files table".
In Arduino boards used in 3D Printers, or on older portable devices like MP3 players, the lack of CPU and memory forces developers to keep the original "files table" order.
So on 3D printers and on standalone MP3 players we end up with not humanly sorted file lists.
SD Sorter sorts your SD Card so that your embedded MCU device reads your SD card with your favourite order.
This is ultra useful for 3D printers having SD cards with a lot of g-code files.
SD Sorter sorts folders and sub-folders too.
Notice that is a portable Window and Linux application meaning that no installation is required.
Works under Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10 and Linux 32 and 64 bits.
SDSorter on the other hand just moves (renames) the files into a temp folder with the correct order and moves the files back again into the original path.
All the actions of SDSorter are tracked at the log file.
This makes more secure SDSorter and more cross-platform but does not mean that it is 100% secure operation. So : Please back up your SD card before proceeding, I am not responsible for any data or even hardware loss.
Before downloading SD Sorter you should take a look at our official documentation page.
